Lip Fillers & Dermal Fillers FAQs

How long do lip fillers last?
This can vary depending on the dermal filler used. Dermal fillers can last from 6-12 months. However, lifestyle factors such as smoking, poor diet and water intake, will have an effect on the longevity of dermal filler. So, look after yourself and your health, and your lip filler will last too.

How much are lip fillers?
Lip filler procedures at Serenity Aesthetics in Leeds cost £150 per 0.5 ml Juvederm Ultra Smile, £250 for 1.0 ml Teosyal Puresense & £275 per 1.0 ml Teosyal RHA 2/3 (the first resilient hyaluronic acid dedicated to facial dynamism). Other clinics may charge £250-£400 per full ml filler. Always ensure you are treated by suitably trained, insured & experienced medical healthcare professionals. You should always have a consultation beforehand.

Do lip fillers hurt?
Yes it can hurt, the lips are a very sensitive area and so injections can be uncomfortable. Most industry gold-standard dermal filler products contain the local anaesthetic lidocaine & having topical anaesthetic prior to any treatment can help to reduce any associated discomfort. When local anaesthetics wear off your lips may be slightly tender for a day or two but should not be painful. Here at Serenity Aesthetics in Leeds we only use dermal fillers containing lidocaine local anaesthetic in our procedures & provide topical anaesthetic creams/dental blocks if desired.

What are lip fillers?
Lip fillers are generally made from hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance found in humans. When injected into the lips, the hyaluronic acid attracts water and creates a plumping effect. The border of the lip can also be injected to create more definition and prevent lipstick bleed.

Is 0.5 ml of lip filler enough?
Having 0.5 ml lip filler is enough to create a subtle effect. This volume is useful to have if you have never had lip filler before or require a smaller ‘top-up’ following on from previous treatments. It is also best practice to add lip-filler in small amounts so that there is time to see the effect. Having 0.5 ml lip filler will generally only last half the amount of time as a full 1.0 ml.

Are lip fillers safe?
Modern dermal fillers used for lip filling are far safer than previous products & can be dissolved after injection if necessary. There are still some risks associated with dermal filler injection including, bruising, swelling, infection & vascular occlusion. Using only a suitably trained & qualified medical practitioner or doctor will reduce the occurrence of side effects and adverse reactions. Your medical practitioner or doctor should discuss all risks involved before commencing any dermal filler treatments.

Can you have lip fillers when pregnant?
You are not permitted to have lip dermal filler treatments whilst pregnant or breastfeeding. You may only restart/have dermal filler treatments six weeks after giving birth as long as you are not breastfeeding. You should always inform your medical practitioner or doctor if you think you may be pregnant or are still breastfeeding.

How long does the swelling last after lip fillers?
Any swelling following lip filler treatments typically lasts 2-4 days. Bruises from treatments can occur & can take several days to disappear, these can be covered with make-up the next day if necessary. Dermal fillers can take up to four weeks to fully integrate into the tissues. Here at Serenity Aesthetics in Leeds, we fully discuss what to expect & any associated risks during your initial consultation to ensure that you are able to make an informed decision to go ahead with any treatment.

How much swelling is normal after lip fillers?
Swelling following dermal filler treatments into the lips varies from person to person. Many people experience a little – moderate swelling whereas some people experience a lot of swelling. The most noticeable swelling lasts 3-4 days & is more noticeable in the morning after being laid flat overnight. The number of injections made & the volume of product used during your treatment can have an impact on the amount of swelling you will experience.

How to make lip fillers last longer?
Do not touch your lips for several hours after having a lip filler treatment to ensure that the product is not moved. Dermal fillers attract water like a magnet when injected into the lips so it is important to keep hydrated to ensure that the filler can expand properly and is not broken down quickly. Excessive sun exposure or sunbed use has a dehydrating effect on the skin which can result in dermal fillers breaking down more quickly. Here at Serenity Aesthetics in Leeds we use the Teosyal RHA range of dermal fillers, which are known to be natural looking and long lasting.

How to massage lip fillers?
Actually, it is important not to massage your lips or any small lumps in your lips which may have developed during the first few days following treatment when any swelling/oedema may still be present. If a small lump/nodule is present when any swelling has subsided and it is easily accessible, you may pinch it firmly several times each day for several days which will help to disperse it. Always inform the beauty practitioner who performed your treatment if lumps have developed or you are unable to disperse them using the technique above.

How to reduce swelling after lip fillers?
Some swelling for a few days following lip fillers is completely normal & to be expected. Do not touch your lips for the first 8 hours after treatment. Gently cooling the lips with an ice pack wrapped in a flannel can help reduce swelling. Arnica cream may also help with bruising and swelling during the first few days after treatment.

Are lip fillers haram?
Yes, it is seen as haram to undergo lip filler treatments & any other cosmetic treatments in order to change the beauty and appearance which Allah created.

Can you smoke after lip fillers?
Yes, it is possible to smoke after lip fillers. Please also be mindful of keeping your lips clean and not touching them too much so as to not move the dermal filler before it has had a chance to be absorbed, this can take several hours. Holding a cigarette too firmly between the lips can distort the shape of the lips immediately following treatment & over longer periods of time. Here at Serenity Aesthetics in Leeds we would advise to no smoking for several hours following lip filler treatments if possible.

How to dissolve lip fillers naturally?
Lip fillers made from hyaluronic acid will naturally be reabsorbed into the body over time and will dissolve naturally

Where can dermal fillers be used?
Dermal fillers can be used throughout the face, decolletage and hands to correct fine, superficial and deep lines, restoring youthfulness and rejuvenating the skin. Specific areas which can be targeted include; frown lines, Periorbital lines – crows feet, bridge of the nose, Nasolabial folds – laughter lines, Perioral lines – smoker’s lines, Vermillion border – lines on the border of the lips causing lipstick bleed, lip augmentation – re-define your lips by increasing volume and leaving them soft and plump, Marionette lines – corners of the mouth to your jaw for a more cheerful expression, cheeks, tear troughs, back of hands & decolletage – restore youthfulness and suppleness.

What dermal filler and lip filler beauty products do we use at Serenity Aesthetics?
There are several different dermal fillers and lip fillers currently offered on the market. Serenity offer various products including, Teosyal & Belotero at our skin clinic in Leeds City Centre. Your practitioner will advise you on which dermal filler will best suit your needs.

What is different about the Teosyal RHA (Resilient Hyaluronic Acid) wrinkle/lip filler products?
Teosyal RHA is a wrinkle and lip filler product based on hyaluronic acid. It’s stretches with the movement of your face giving a natural appearance and slowing the breakdown of the hyaluronic acid, allowing the dermal filler and lip filler to last longer than traditional fillers. It is suitable for the most mobile areas of the face: perioral area, lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds, forehead, crows feet.

What is Teosyal Redensity I?
Loss of hyaluronic acid and excessive oxidative stress are the main reasons of skin aging: Redensity I has been developed for holding back the appearance of first wrinkles, for rehydration & for smoothing out mature crepey skin. It consists of a high concentration of natural and free hyaluronic acid and a combination of anti-oxidants, amino acids, minerals and vitamins, all of which are naturally present in our skin.
Teosyal Redensity I treatment consists in performing microinjections across the dermis, so that hyaluronic acid and the Dermo-Restructuring Complex are spread evenly into the skin. Three sessions at three week intervals are recommended for optimal cutaneous re-densification. Two to three sessions per year are recommended to maintain the effects of the treatment. It is suitable for the face, neck and also neckline which is a particularly fragile area often ignored by traditional treatments. Redensity I guarantees subtle, uniform and cumulative results: the skin is evenly and naturally plumped, radiant and smooth with luminosity restored.
