Frequently Asked Questions
What happens during my first consultation and treatment?
At your face-to-face consultation with one of our nurse prescribers, Profhilo will be discussed with you, and a full assessment carried out to ensure it is the right treatment for your skin concerns. So that you are able to make an informed decision, we need to know that you understand all of the potential risks and side effects. We will need to know about your past medical history, including any medications that you are taking or have taken recently, both prescribed and over the counter. If you have had previous non-surgical treatments, we will need to be aware of these and the product that has been used. Photographs will be taken of your face and the treatment area and you will be required to read and sign a consent form. Please arrive for your appointment with minimal make-up. After treatment, your aftercare instructions will be discussed with you and this information will also be emailed to you, along with our out-of-hours telephone number.
What should I do before treatment?
- We advise that you refrain from drinking alcohol for 24 hours.
- If you are currently taking any medications prescribed or over the counter, ensure you have told us about them.
- If you are currently taking anticoagulant therapy, ensure that you have informed us about this.
- If you are currently taking antibiotics, please inform us as we recommend that treatment does not take place during antibiotic therapy.
- We are unable to treat you if you have taken Roaccutane in the past 6 months, so please let us know.
What should / shouldn't I do after my treatment?
- Immediately after treatment you will be advised to not rub or touch the treated areas for 24 hours.
- You must not apply make up for 24 hours.
- Do not perform strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
- No saunas, steam rooms, extreme cold or UV radiation for 2 weeks.
- Ensure after your first treatment you see us 4 weeks after for your second treatment.
Are results immediate?
Although some effect may be seen one week after treatment, two treatments will be required to see the full results. Optimal results can be seen 4 weeks after the second treatment. We will see you for a follow-up appointment at this stage. There may be bruising, swelling and tenderness after your treatment. This is normal and can take several days to settle.
What is Profhilo and how is it different from dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are made with hyaluronic acid cross-linked with BDDE technology, designed to give volume to areas of the face. Profhilo is also made with Hyaluronic acid but it is not cross-linked and therefore is BDDE free. Skin beauty boosters are designed to hydrate the skin and deliver amino acids, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. Profhilo is not a dermal filler and also not a skin beauty booster- it is in a category of its own. The hyaluronic acid has high spreadability and is designed for skin bio-remodelling, meaning that is has a smoothing and anti-wrinkle effect whilst lifting and adding firmness to the skin. Profhilo stimulates collagens I, III, IV & VII. Using the BAP technique, 5 injection points are made on both sides of the face. Profhilo can also be used on the neck, back of hands and arms.
Our Radiant skin package includes 2 Profhilo treatments & 3 skin beauty boosters (link) to give the ultimate injectable skin treatment for rejuvenated and glowing skin.
Is my face numbed prior to any injections & is it painful?
With the BAP technique there are only 5 small injection sites to each of the face, making this treatment relatively pain free. Therefore there is no need for topical numbing cream. However if you would like numbing cream then we ask you to arrive 30 minutes before your appointment.
Who is suitable for Profhilo treatments?
Profhilo is suitable for those over 30 years of age, with concerns about a loss of skin elasticity, crêpey and dehydrated skin on the face, neck, back of hands or arms. It can be used as a stand-alone treatment for those wanting a more subtle rejuvenation than dermal fillers or it can be used to compliment dermal fillers and other aesthetic treatments for full facial rejuvenation. During your face-to-face consultation we will carry out a full assessment in order to ensure this is the most appropriate treatment for you.
How long does Profhilo last?
Typically results last for up to 6 months. In order to maintain your best results, we recommend retreatment every 6 months.
Is Profhilo safe?
Profhilo is not chemically cross-linked and therefore contains no BDDE. Profhilo has also been shown to cause little, if any, inflammatory reaction and typically no swelling, due to its unique hyaluronic acid manufacturing process. But there is still a potential risk of side effects, as with any non-surgical treatment, and these will be discussed with you at your consultation.
