Lip Fillers & Dermal Fillers Guide
Dermal fillers and Lip Fillers are made of Hyaluronic acid, which is grown in a laboratory. This is naturally occurring in our skin and serves a variety of purposes. Youthful skin retains its turgor, resilience and pliability, among others, due to its high content of water. Daily external injury, in addition to the normal process of aging, causes loss of moisture. The key molecule involved in skin moisture is hyaluronic acid that has unique capacity in retaining water.
We are able to use dermal filler treatments to replicated bone, subcutaneous fat, to add more volume creating contours and symmetry to the face, to rejuvenate the ageing face, or to give overall hydration to improve skin texture. There are a variety of dermal fillers and lip fillers available on the market. At Serenity Aesthetics skin clinic in Leeds, we only use industry gold standard products to ensure we deliver you procedures with the evidence behind them. Dermal fillers and lip fillers come in a range of viscosities and are selected specifically for areas and the volume required. This will be discussed by your Serenity Aesthetics Skin Clinic practitioner during consultation.
Teosyal and Juvederm are traditional dermal fillers, dependent on the particle size and where they are placed, last from 6-12 months. The Teosyal RHA range lasts longer due to the elastic nature of the product. This helps to prolong breakdown by moving harmoniously with the skin and gives a more natural appearance. These dermal fillers typically last from 9-22 months.
1mL of dermal filler equates to 1/5th of a teaspoon which can give good improvement to younger patients and older, however if there is a significant ageing or volume required you may require more than 1mL.
Areas which can be treated with dermal fillers include volumising young or ageing lips; smoker’s lines; chin & jawline contouring; cheeks; temples; forehead rejuvenation; nose; under eye hollowing; back of hands; full facial rejuvenation with skin beauty boosters; décolletage rejuvenation.
We believe in the natural look and will never make you look ‘done’. Our aim is to have your friends, family and colleagues admiring your freshness rather than thinking you have had assistance with aesthetic procedures.
Patients often ask if the procedures hurt. We make your experience as comfortable as possible, using numbing creams and techniques to minimise discomfort. If you are anxious and would like a dental block for lip or peri-oral treatments we can accommodate this.
It is very important that you make an informed choice when it comes to dermal filler procedures. This is a medical procedure and your practitioner will thoroughly discuss potential side effects as well as treatment outcomes at your consultation.

If You Are Planning Lip Fillers Or Dermal Fillers Then Knowledge Is Key
We have many patients visit our Leeds City Centre based skin clinic and ask us about dermal filler treatments and lip fillers, and how they can benefit them?
It is, of course, a subjective choice as to whether you feel this medical procedure is for you but what we can tell you is that lip fillers and dermal fillers have restored many of our patients self-confidence and being able to deliver this positive attitude of self-worth is a one of the best parts of our job!
We believe many of our patients can relate to the feeling of overall ageing, facial volume loss and changes happening to the structures of the face. Over time the middle section of the face begins to “fall down” whilst the underlying bone gets reabsorbed and the deep fat compartments begin to reduce in size. This coupled with skin changes, loss of elastin and collagen make us feel less youthful and create shadows on the face, which are associated with age.
I believe it important to recognise we are all going to age and therefore it important not to obsess over every line and wrinkle. I explain to all my patients that achieving a natural look of around 10 years younger is a sensible and achievable result which will have your friends, family and colleagues wondering what your secret is without giving the game away that you have had lip filler treatments or dermal filler treatments.
On the other hand the approach we take to my younger patients is slightly different. Our younger patients often feel that they lack contour, definition and sometimes balanced proportions to their face. This is simply about enhancing the natural beauty already there by evening asymmetries, creating beautiful angles to the face and volumisation. so again, there is a role for lip fillers and dermal filler treatments, but to achieve a different outcome.
Dermal fillers have come along way and now with the Resilient Hyaluronic Acid dermal filler Teosyal range (RHA), it is possible to achieve the most natural of looks whether you are addressing ageing concerns or are looking for an enhancement.
The reason why Resilient hyaluronic acid dermal fillers give such a natural appearance is that they are designed to stretch and bend within the skin and therefore sit within the skin tissue with no give away that the result is from dermal fillers treatments. This also means that the longevity of the product is increased as it is not under the same force from dynamic movement as traditional fillers.
“With Lip Fillers and Dermal Fillers – Education is key”
Anatomical understanding is absolutely imperative in ensuring results are natural and appropriate with only evidence based techniques used. It is also to ensure that the procedures carried out are as safe as possible.
We at Serenity Aesthetics, Leeds know that knowledge is key and therefore every year we invest heavily in the most advanced education possible in our industry. Our latest education involves a 10 month course with industry leader, Dr Lee Walker. Not only has he founded the Northern Aesthetic Practitioner Group but he is a key speaker for Teosyal and a member of the board of Save Face. His contributions to our field are formidable. His Mentorship course is seen as one of the most advanced to complete in our field.
With many advanced courses lasting just one day and practitioners able to offer injectables after completing a foundation one day course, we strive to standout from the crowd.
How can dermal fillers be applied to me?
Below are two examples of a recent cases.
This patient wanted to enhance her own features and the result shown was built up over multiple visits.
Dermal filler injections were applied to the midface/ cheek sections, the chin and the lips. As you can see the result is very natural but has given more contour to the cheeks, lifted the jowl area and has given a more proportioned and oval appearance to the face. Approximately 4.5mL of product have been used throughout her journey.
This wonderful patient has been told by friends and colleagues that they could not put their fingers on what is was this patient had done. We believe she looks amazing! Please note the after picture is immediately after treatment. The results will continue to improve over the course of 4 weeks.
The next patient had very clear tear troughs, with midface/ cheek flattening and jowls. Dermal filler injections were applied to the cheek area only but by careful consideration of anatomy, the tear troughs and jowls have also been visually improved, not just the cheek area.
You will also observe that the corners of the mouth have also been impacted and look more elevated. This is an area that many of patients are concerned with. This demonstrates that it is not a case of treating each individual concern as a separate entity.
By understanding the ageing process correctly and the anatomy multiple areas can be addressed without becoming a “line chaser”. Approximately 3mL of product have been used here. Again, the after picture is immediately after treatment. The results will continue to improve over the course of 4 weeks.
As you can see, lip fillers and dermal fillers do not have to give you that Jackie Stallone appearance. We will always strive to give you the best possible results.
